Students in WHYY’s after school documentary class spent 4 months researching, interviewing, and editing their findings into this 7-minute piece highlighting the high school LGBT community and the organizations established to support them.
“I didn’t know it was an organized community I guess until I started getting involved with QSA,” Bronte Smith said.
The WHYY student reporters spoke with students in various Philadelphia Public schools. LGBT+ people were in support of the Queer Student Alliance groups in their schools and some felt the groups had helped them validate their sexuality, which may have gone unnoticed otherwise. Students supported increasing the number of QSA groups in all American public institutions.
