Civil Rights & Public Spaces: Documentary by Wagner MS 6th-graders

Mr O’Rourke’s 6th-grade Social Studies class produced this awesome community history project exploring civil rights in public spaces like schools and parks. After learning about the history of civil rights in Plessy v Ferguson and Brown v Board of Ed, students considered  their own civil rights in public spaces like Wagner Middle School or Morris Estates just across the street. How have conditions changed over the years?

We interviewed Wagner alumnus Eric Marsh of WHYY’s News & Information Community Exchange and Wagner’s recently retired principal Dr. Maya Johnstone. Please watch and share, and if you have any resources to offer Wagner students or Morris Estates, contact Wagner MS through their Instagram.
